[Review Request] Working up a final Ramsjo design - what do you think?

After receiving input from a few IKEA Fans and making some revisionsbased on their feedback, I've put together what is hopefully going to be my final design. But I woud really like to get an assessment of it from the knowledgeable people of this community. Here's the design: http://kitchenplanner.ikea.com/US/UI...SharedDesign=1

And here are a couple of questions:

1) My wife is concerned that she may not have a good spot for cutting boards and cookie sheets. Any suggestions where those could go? Could I take some of the shelves out of the shelving unit to the left of the sink cabinet and just use it as open gap shelving for that stuff? Or are those shelves not removeable / adjustable?

2) Would it be worth having the IKEA design service come in and do a fresh design, or do you think this is as good as I might get from a typical design consultation? Would it be just as well to have an IKEA associate review my design in the store?

Looking forward to any feedback. Hoping to buy within the next week or so!

Help - AK HDO vs AK HOMD oven cabinets

We ordered our kitchen and counters yesterday. Whew! Credit card is still cooling off. Thank you 20% off sale and thank you IKEA Conshohocken for the free lunch! I was going in to update my blog tonight and ran across something that has me confused.

My wife removed all the countertops and appliances from the IKEA planner file since they would be separate (we are buying non-IKEA appliances and Cambria counters) so I was adding things back in for aesthetics when taking screenshots. I got to the oven cabinet to add the double ovens back and saw it was listed as the HOMD oven/micro cabinet. The system doesn't let you add the IKEA double oven to this cabinet. I looked into it further and the HDO is the "official" double oven cabinet which the planner lets you add the double oven to.

I then wondered if we bought the wrong cabinet yesterday. So I checked the sizes, specs, and parts listing on the site and they appear identical EXCEPT the HDO has an extra package of 2 shelves. The cabinet pictures on the website are identical EXCEPT the bottom drawer on the HDO is dark (assume a shelf above it) and the HOMD is lit (no shelf above?).

The $64,000 question then is why does the HDO have the extra 2-shelf pack and the HOMD doesn't? Are these the "oven shelves" I read about at some point? They are only spec'd at 92 pounds each which when added doesn't come close to the weight of a typical double oven. I was planning on adding cleats for bracing anyway, but do I need to buy these two shelves?

Bonus question - looks like the monster front panel (30x58) will be unnecessary since the typical 30" double oven barely fits inside width anyway so I can return that and get another 6.25" drawer front or two or will I still need something for the vertical sides to keep the unit the proper distance from the back of the cabinet?

Hemnes Eight Drawer Dresser - Step 2 Problem

Stuck on Step 2 of the Hemnes Eight Drawer Dresser assembly. This is the step where the "legs" of the dresser are attached to the side panels. Legs R1 and R2 aligned perfectly with the pre-drilled holes on one of the side panels and both cams and dowels installed without any problems.

Legs L1 and L2 are not lining up with the pre-drilled holes. Specifically, the holes for the dowels do not line up. You can see from the pictures I attached that they do not line up. I believe I am following the instructions properly. We've received replacement L1 and L2 legs as well as a new side panel, but the problem persists. Someone please help!!!

Ikea Installer - Richmond VA?

Hey guys, hoping I'm posting this in the right place. If not, my apologies.

My wife and I have fallen in love with IKEA kitchens and we're planning to install one in our new home. While I'm quite confident we can handle building the cabinet boxes and some of the other easier tasks, we're in need of a contractor to help us install the cabinets, help us with demo, cut the counters for our sink, do drywall, and some other fun things. We're not very handy, so we definitely in need of some professional assistance.

We're a little far from the DC area IKEA store down here in Richmond, VA. Does anyone know of an IKEA installer in our area that they could recommend? Is there a directory out there somewhere? Google hasn't been as helpful as I'd hoped.

Besta Desk keyboard tray addition help

Does anyone know if this can be done? I need a keyboard tray that is at least 33.5 inches wide and 11 inches deep, with 2 inches of clearance from the underside of the desk. The lady I called at Ikea said that there is 14.75 inches of clearance from the front of the desk until that back board that helps hide cords. Does anyone know if this has been done? I don't want to buy it to find out that this would be a nightmare.

I'm also curious that if I do it, how can I go about getting a piece of wood that is the same as the rest of the desk?

starting on kitchen reno, Ikea has lots of great products and ideas. it would be great if there were more dimentional drawings on some of their products. The Akurum 49" corner cabinet, how wide is the door & drawer? cant find it?

i have a KAJAK spinning mirror/shelving unit,



i moved last week, and 2 of the rollers underneath fell out. so i'm trying to find 2 replacements. IKEA says they can't help. home depot wasn't much either. any ideas?

Using a 24" cabinet as a end panel

I have a customer that is in the planning stage, they are thinking of placing a 12" x 24" x 80" inch pantry at the end of a cabinet run.

So that the narrow side would go against the wall and the 24" back would be against a base cabinet and an upper. My thinking is the 1/2" lip would need to be cut off the top and bottom, end panels would be attached to the back and side.

Then the side is secured to the wall and the back gets secured to the upper and lower cabinets just as a regular end panel would with perhaps some extra screws.

Aside from the regular ie door clearance etc, am I over looking something? Not sure as to a discret way to fasten the panel to the back aside from glue and some 18 gauge nails with filler?

Has anyone done this or seen it done? Any photos?

We are in the process of designing our first kitchen remodel. We want to have a white kitchen. Has anyone had any experience with the Ramsjo white cabinets with the misty carrera caesarstone countertops? We want to use white subway tile backsplash as well.

18" High Cabinet plans

I have an empty space after my kitchen remodel that is 18.5" x 80.5". I need to put in an 18" x 80" IKEA cabinet to match our Adele Off White cabinets that are installed. Of course IKEA doesn't sell an 18" wide tall cabinet.

Can someone confirm that I can make the cabinet frame if I mix the parts from an 18" cabinet (upper or lower?) with a 15" high cabinet?

Also, should I get an 18" upper or 18" lower cabinet for the width pieces.

After I get the frame worked out I will install two 18" x 39" upper cabinet doors for the door. Hopefully they can be installed close enough together vertically to look like a single door. Thoughts?

I will then fill the 1/2" gaps at the top and side with filler/trim.

If this is posted somewhere else, can somebody point that out?

Looking for the original design: the mirror door is a single piece of glass made of two mirrors back to back. The current design's door looks the same from the front, but has a particleboard backing with two mirrors on each side.

Why won't paint stick to Hemnes?

I tried to paint a HEMNES TV bench but no matter what I do, the paint peels!

First, I cleaned th piece and tried an oil based primer that I was promised would stick to anything, and the primer peeled before I could get the first coat of pain on. I stripped all of that off with turpentine (hello fumes!), then scuff sanded (per Martha) and applied a water based primer, which was labeled as being for glossy surfaces, so I figured it should take care of the "between scuff" spaces. This seemed to go better, so I went ahead and put three coats of acrylic pain on and a coat of Verathane.

Less than a week later, the paint is peeling.

Need help finding instructions!

So, I bought a piece of Ikea furniture off of Craig'sList and it didn't come with any directions. On the underside of one of the pieces, there was a half torn sticker that read: 600.60 PQM.

I looked on the IKEA website and could not find a desk that looked even close to the one I have.

Any help would be great!

It's white with blonde wood trim. It's a corner style desk.
