Amazing kitchen designer in Toronto (Burlington OR Etobicoke)?

$

Hi all,

I have a finalized design in IKEA Kitchen Planner, and am ready to go to the store.

I need to do two things:
1)Tweak the design to perfection
2)Order it

I am worried about #1. I have some things that might be a little unique (I have pushed the wall cabinets with the fridge in it 3" away from the wall. So that a regular fridge will recess flush with the cabinets, and I don't have to buy a cabinet depth one). That's just an example, but I did some neat stuff with stacking of cabinets, etc.

Last time I walked into the IKEA Etobicoke, I asked a basic question that had 2 options. Was looking for the Ikean's input. He basically shrugged and said "you can do it either way.. whatever you want to do"

I was hoping for an answer like "it's up to you, but option B is WAY better/more common than A".

I really need someone to order my kitchen who has either a)been working there for a while and knows what works and what doesn't, or b)is an absolute kitchen genius.

I'm looking for them to review my diagram, suggest what won't work, make creative suggestions (I see you want modern... have you considered doing x?).

I've already posted here and received feedback from everyone, which I have incorporated.

Does anyone know of an awesome kitchen designer in either Burlington or Etobicoke? Did a search but the info is from 2006 and I'm not sure those people work there any more.

Who did you use? Are you happy with them? Were they average or GREAT?

Thanks!

What to do with the 3" empty backsplash space on the wall?

Hi there!
This is my first post here so please be nice. :)

I am replacing an older laminate countertop with an integrated backsplash with an Ikea Black Stone Effect laminate countertop.

These Ikea ones however do not come with the integrated backsplashes.

So now, after putting the Ikea countertop on, I have a 3" space on the wall where the integrated backsplash from the old countertop used to be.

I tried searching high and low for Black Stone Effect strips thinking I can make my own backsplash if I had the laminate (by wrapping it around wood), however came empty handed.

Does anyone have any advice/ideas on what I can do with this extra space? Directly above this space are some tiles that I cannot find any longer either, so I'm left with having to do something creative.

Would anyone know where I can get about 90" of Black Stone Effect strips/sheets enough to cover 3" high?

Any insight would be fantastic as I'm running low on ideas now.

Thank you kindly!

L Kitchen / Corner question: 49" "Dead" corner / sink?

I am remodeling a large number of studio apartments. I have very small kitchens. They are 87" by 62" and on the 87" side I need space for a 20" stove. So really I have 67" x 62".

What we were doing is putting a 36" sink base on the 62" wall. Then a 24" and a 15" on the 67"+stove wall and leaving the ~24x24 corner just empty.

So now I was thinking, to better use that space, I would use a 36" sink base corner cabinet, then fill out each side with other cabinets. however, due to lack of selections of corner sink cabinets I had another idea: Could I use the 49" "dead corner" cabinet and have the "dead" area hold my sink? I realize that would limit (or eliminate) my ability to lazy suzan or anything else in that space but that's okay.

If the 49" cabinet has 24" in the 'dead space, + a few inches, I assume that's enough room for a small sink, since it seems there is only about 18" of drawers on that thing? The description didn't say (and I guess I could leave one lazy suzan spinning drawer to slide under the plumbing)

Also, what's the SKU because the SKU I saw had a door on the cabinet where I'd imagine it would be in the "dead" space (see pic below). If you were going to use it in a corner, why would the 24" in the corner (with the other cabinet butted to it) have a door?

THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!

Hello,
I am looking to remodel my kitchen using Ikea akurum cabinets. Our present design is a small square broken off from the living room by a peninsula and a bank of upper cabinets that blocks the view.

We are looking to do this on a budget, and will be doing the work myself. We want to make the kitchen open so that people can be in the kitchen while we cook. Not big entertainers but like to have family around.

I am trying to do this remodel/opening without having to move appliance locations or plumbing, but don't want to have an overly screwy layout.

I would appreciate any comments on my design.

Thanks much
Brian

Luftig Kitchen Exhaust Hood - how far can I run the ductwork?

Hi all,

IKEA cabinets and exhaust hood due to arrive in a month. We have two options for venting, both straight runs after the initial 90 degree turn:

  1. 6 ft., going through cabinets
  2. 15 ft, going up through ceiling and between joists
Does anyone know how far you can vent the Luftig? Article number is 102.225.38; motor is 264w, 400cfm.

Option 2 would be the better solution, but one contractor said it was too far. Another said it was fine. I've seen in these forums that "3 meters should not be a problem", but no other guidance.

Thanks a lot!

Hi All - I'm a long time lurker, getting ready to take the plunge during the sale! I did a gut kitchen remodel in '07, and discovered you then, but lived in Hawaii so an Ikea kitchen wasn't happening.

Mission Statement -

An incredibly functional, esthetically beautiful space for a single cook. The flow should allow for continued function for the cook as the family grabs drinks, uses the microwave, washes hands and feeds the three dogs. the focus is on functionality and maximum storage.

First of all, the planner is killing me. I have drawers for my blind corner opening into the eating area, and the planner won't let me turn them properly.

I also can't seem to raise my cabinets . My real ceiling is vaulted with the lowest spot being the base of the beam at 8'1". the high point is 10'6".

We currently have laundry in the kitchen. I would LOVE to move this, and have some ideas how - but am worried that moving walls in the back part of the house will derail my kitchen. SO, I used a resizable washer and made it 80" to show stacking. Any suggestions? I think that I will buy the cabs assuming that the laundry may stay in the kitchen for a while...

I would really like to do extra deep counters, 30" would be ideal, but even an extra 2" would be great. What extra will I need to buy to manage this?

I would also love to include toe kick drawers for my dog bowls, art supplies and other crud.

Any other suggestions for maximizing storage? We are downsizing into a house half of what we are used to. I think all of the lower drawers should double our function, right?

Also, we are on well water, so will have one of those big 5 gallon jugs of water - where do I put that?

Here is my current plan

Will I be ready to pull the trigger by the end of the month?

Small L kitchen question in 1930's apt building (ikea layout photo included)

So right now on my 87" left wall I have a 20" stove and a 15" & 24" cabinet (which gives me a few extra inches for corner loss and so stove isn't smashed in place). On the right wall I have a 36" sink base and that's it. So that leaves the (aprox) 24x24" dead space in the corner.

When I've looked up the 49" corner cabinets to use that 'dead' space, it seems on the part of the cabinet that will have the other side of the L touching it, there is a door there (at least in the product photos). I'm not sure why a door would be there if cabinets would be against it? Maybe you can order it w/o the door. Either way, they didn't mention the size of the door you could actually open but I assume (?) it's 24" only because the depth of the cabinet touching it would be 24" (?)

I would want to use the reverse of this I guess.

Anyway. As far as plumbing: This is a super old building. 50+ unit property, built in the 30's. So in the photo, the faucet is the type that comes out of the wall (no cutoffs) rather than up from the countertop (but we'll change that if needed). The location of where the faucet comes out is right over where the sink is in the photo. However, the drain is actually right IN the corner of the kitchen.

So I'm not sure what to do. I think the best would be to replace this setup with a 49" corner cabinet going on the top wall, then put a small (12") cabinet next to it on it's right. Then on the left wall I'd still have the 24" and 15" and my stove.

I'm pretty happy with my wall cabinet setup. I have a 24" above the stove with a vent hood, then two 30x30. It doesn't show it in the photo but the 24" above the vent hood is a 30" tall also but is raised all the way up to give space for the hood.

Thoughts? Or is there something else you guys might suggest?

Can you use a corner cabinet as a regular cabinet?

Hi all - I have a sink which requires a 42" base cabinet. I have had this sink in my garage for 6 years, it's really lovely and I have been holding on to it waiting for my kitchen redo.

Once I realized that the biggest ikea sink base was 36, I gave up and designed around the domsjo double. But still hoping that I can find a way to use this great sink.

I saw a picture of the blind corner cabinet and thought....hey, maybe I can use that. What do you all think?

Thanks

Btw - does anyone have the bowl dimensions of the double domsjo? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Hi. I am new to Ikeafans. We are looking for a general contractor type (in the Brooklyn area) who can help us figure out how to order an Ikea kitchen (our kitchen is NOT conventional - with any uninterrupted walls, so the depths of the cabinets will change - assuming this means some carpentry skills needed!). We also will need the floors refinished and the walls painted.
We don't even know where to begin - if anyone can help, it would be GREATLY appreciated!
Very overwhelmed!

The reason I ask is that in New Jersey there is a UEZ sone, (Urban Enterprise Zone) and the tax rate in the store in Elizabeth NJ is 50% then the rest of the state, I live minutes from the Paramus NJ store, but I work near the Elizabeth NJ store and like to take advantage of the lesser tax rate, but don't want to drive many extra miles with a new kitchen in tow.

Hmmmmm ?

Thanks

Lack side table inside width request

Hello, I am interested in building an equipment rack for my home theater equipment using a LACK side table with castors 901.984.12 with the sides and top of a second one on top to make a 3 shelf unit.

My question is... How wide is the opening between the two sides? The site gives an overall width of 21 5/8", but says nothing about the inside width.

Can someone measure one for me?

Thanks
Jeff

Where to put the microwave?

Help! Very new to this site... and very thankful already!

A major kitchen remodel is in the planning stages (next few months or so), but I'm kind of stuck, and I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE (and so very much appreciate) any feedback.

Here is the current pass: http://kitchenplanner.ikea.com/US/UI...SharedDesign=1

But, I have two big questions for right now:

1. Should I keep the cabinet over the sink window? Thoughts?
2. Where do I put a microwave? I want my three small children to be able to access it, so I really don't want to put it above the range. I'd love to have it at counter height, but I don't really know how to do that with the IKEA cabinets. Any thoughts?

Thanks!
