Hello All,

Looking at getting an Ikea kitchen this week although struggling with layout and planning tools

I have also upload some images from a different kitchen provider to give you all a better view of what the kitchen looks as I am not very good with the planning tool! IKEAFANS - Galleries - Kitchen Plan

My concerns are also with the corner cabinets as I read somewhere that you need an extra 50mm to fit these, can anyone confirm or deny this?

I would like to thank you all for any help / advice you can provide, it is extremely appreciated!!

countertop microwave in wall oven cabinet

Hi,

Due to my small kitchen, I had planned to use an OTR microwave but now,for a variety of reasons, I have decided against this if I can make a countertop MW work in my design plan.

I use my microwave more often than my oven so I would like it in an easy to reach location. I am also need the height accessible and safe for shorter people (5'4" and under). It is not in my budget to have a built in and I already have a countertop MW that I would like to keep. I also want to be able to easily replace the MW if there is problem with it.

I am planning on using the 30 x 88" high cabinet for a single wall oven. It is possible to put a countertop microwave (not built in) on a shelf in that cabinet either above or below the oven?

I can't seem to configure this in the ikea planner or by just looking at the single wall oven cabinet opening. What is used for the shelf? And if this can be done, what would be the heights of both the oven and the MW?

Any pictures or measurements that anyone can provide using the 30" x 88" single wall oven cabinet (or something else that would make this work better??) is greatly appreciated.

LACK Shelving max weight

Hi

I have many lack shelving all which does a great job.

I have the smaller lack floating shelves (the smallest ones available at £5) and was wondering if it is possible to use them as shelves to put my surround sound speakers on.

They are heavy speakers at 4.9kg and on the ikea site it specifies that 3kg is the max load but come on we all know those things are just to cover ikea in the likely event that something may go wrong.

I'm fixing it to a masonary wall and it won't get knocked or moved ever (the speakers) so do you reckon I'm pretty safe to do this?

Problem with Tempe AZ store re: Kitchen Sale 2013

Anticipating the kitchen sale coming in March, I asked a sales associate at the Tempe store to do a mock up order of my kitchen plan on February 22nd. I mentioned to him that according to what I had read on IkeaFans that if I placed the order of $8,000 during the sale I could return, with my receipt, later during the sale and purchase any additional items that I might need and receive 20% off. He said absolutely not "This is a one time purchase only."

I went home, which I might add is 120 miles away in Tucson, and researched this. I called the Customer Service number on the Ikea website and talked to an associate and his manager in sales. They both told me that this was the Ikea National Policy, not up to each store, and that all I needed to do was to ask the salesperson to call the National Number and they would inform them. They said that the policy was several years old and that I would not have a problem. They were very nice. I then used the customer service online correspondence and asked the same question. I received the same answer and printed their answer.

On March 22nd, I met with an associate and placed my order of $8,000 dollars. I then asked her about the 20% off any other items I might need during the sale. She called over her manager Mark and he told me that this was not true. He refused to read the email or make the call. (I should mention that it was a Wednesday morning and a slow day.) He was extremely condescending, finally telling me that he would "make an exception for me" and that I could return "once or twice if I needed to" and "pick up a few accessories."

In addition, two of my cabinets were backordered and I was told that they would not hold them for me even though I told them I would be back in Phoenix on April 5th. Mark did tell me that I "could get the 20% on these cabinets or any that are damaged." He acted as if he was doing me a big favor! (I have read since then that other people on IkeaFans have had their cabinets held for them!)

I did not get angry as my experience tells me that it never gets you anywhere. I was however, privately very insulted by his rude dismissal. I am also concerned about all the other Arizona customers who are denied this sale benefit by this store.

My question is, where do I go from here? Is there a place to make a formal complaint with Ikea? Or is this something that can only be voiced on something like YELP?

Brand new, still in packaging. Extra part left over from a kitchen face-lift about 4 years ago.

The Arlig medium brown line has been discontinued. If someone can make use of this, I am happy to let it go for $30 if anyone needs it.

The TARVA Dresser

Hi all,

This is my first post/thread on IKEA Fans. I'm looking for some sagely advice. I would like a new dresser to hack. I've got my eye on the 6-drawer tall TARVA. My plans for it are to basically follow what this person did:

Which I love!!

SO, I have a few questions:

1) Have you owned the TARVA, and what did you think of it? Is it a good quality, sturdy dresser? Any complaints? Praises?

2) As an adult, who is capable of using a computer, I think it is safe to say that I will not be attempting to climb the dresser, nor do I have any children, or live with anyone/ anything (no large, dexterous pets to worry about) that will attempt to climb the dresser, so do I need to secure it to the wall? I really don't want to have to put holes in the wall unnecessarily, and I feel like furniture should be able to stand on its own.

3) Hackers: Have you painted a TARVA, or other untreated wood Ikea furniture? What was your experience? Any hints/ tips/tricks? Or is it pretty straight forward. I planned to spray paint it, as this seems like the easiest way to get an even finish, and its cheaper.

PS Any super cheap drawer pulls like the ones shown that you know of? I think the pictured ones were about $5.50, so if you know of even cheaper ones, PLEASE let me know, always happy to save some cash.

[Review Request] Please review our kitchen design

We are finally ready to redo our kitchen and of course its the right time as Ikea has the 20% off $4500. My husband (who is handy) is adamant on installing the cabinets himself, though he has never really installed any kitchen cabinets before... You think he will be okay??? We will be using the granite installers suggested by Ikea. The design you see below is quite close to how our kitchen should look in a month from now OR change once we receive some suggestions from the Ikea pros... the random hanging wall cabinets that you see on the Wall B (by the window) are actually going to sit under the roller cabinets to hold them but as the planner does not allow wall cabinets to sit on the floor, we have them hanging on the wall (please suggest if you have any better option for the roller/wall cabinets as all we are looking for is more cabinets for storage while maintaining 12" depth as this wall is right next to one of the entrance of the kitchen). Also for the top of the refrigerator, we only have 13" clearance and Ikea does not have high cabinets near this dimension... any ideas to fill that space?

Would appreciate feedback. Thanks!!!

Single Door on 24" Base Cabinet?

I'm new to IKEA cabinets and could use some help. I'm planning to put a 24" sink cabinet that will be flush against the wall. When I use the IKEA planner and add the 24" sink cabinet, I get the warning that it's too close to the wall. I'm thinking that a single door cabinet that opens away from the wall would solve this problem, but I can only find double door sink cabinets on ikea.com. When I go to the store, will I have the option for a single door cabinet? I'm planning to use Stat White doors.

[IKEA Spotting] Name this loft bed w/desk

Is QWR's kitchen design service worth it?

So I've taken the time to work and re-work (and re-work again) my own kitchen design. A few IKEA Fans members have reviewed my design and provided very helpful feedback -- most of which I've incorporated into my latest design here: http://kitchenplanner.ikea.com/US/UI...SharedDesign=1.

All-in-all, I feel like my current design is pretty good, but I'm sure there are things that could be improved.

So here are my questions:

1) Considering my current design, is it worth it to have a design service like QWR Services (referred by my local IKEA) come out to my home and do their own recommended design?

2) What's your experience with QWR (I'm in Detroit)? Are they knowledgeable, helpful, professional, and most of all, good designers?

3) Is it worth their $200 fee? I know it's a drop in the bucket compared to what I'm spending on a kitchen, but I've got to do this project the most cost-effective way possible?

4) Have you installed a kitchen without assistance from design services like QWR? Were you happy that you did it alone, or do you wish you had used a designer?
