carousel or pull outs for corner cab

$

We're in the process of designing our new Ikea kitchen and torn on the corner base cabinet. The 36" corner with carousel fits the space better, but the carousel seems really flimsy. How do folks feel about the 49" with pullouts? Are they sturdy?

Thanks!

[Review Request] Looking to redesign kitchen

Hi, after having lived in a few different houses with the kitchen they came with, we are finally ready to design a new kitchen. I am a big fan of this website and love the functionality of an Ikea kitchen. I have spent a fair amount of time going to Ikea and looking at kitchen layouts / designs and have also gone to local kitchen stores in Toronto to get an idea of what's out there.

Mission Statement:
I want my kitchen to be functional, ergonomic and organized, and something that my family and i are proud of as we have saved for a while to do this reno.

Thoughts on kitchen:
We live in a small semi in Toronto and are going to open up the wall between the kitchen and the dining room to get more of an open layout and also more light, since the kitchen is awash in sunlight every day.

Our gas range is currently behind this wall that we are opening up, so I think we have to move it to the outside wall so we can vent it (currently not externally vent, just recirculates in the kitchen).

The outside wall has a window under which is the sink - there is not much of a view from this window as we just stare into our neighbour's AC unit (houses are very close). So we are open to closing this window since we have the sliding patio doors which give us a lot of light and also the nice view into our backyard.

Here are some photos of my current setup:

Here is a link to the preliminary plan for this design:

http://kitchenplanner.ikea.com/CA/UI...SharedDesign=1

- I have created a peninsula in the space where the current wall is coming down

- Closed the window on the exterior wall and moved range to that wall

- Moved sink into peninsula

- on common wall with my neighbour, kept the fridge in its existing space, and built pantry units around it. We will build-in a microwave either in the 24" or the 30" pantry depending on the microwave and trim kit we buy.

I would appreciate some input on this design and if there are ways to make the kitchen even more functional. I am open to moving the gas line and water lines around if it makes for a better layout since we are going to do this once and want to make it right.

Just obtained the Narvik bed instructions from IKEA via e-mail and thought I'd share with the world as they are not available on the general website. I hope these help other thrifty folks. Was able to get all the hardware for US $3.99 + tax.

needed - Effektiv replacement keys / or lockset with keys

hi there. we just picked up a four-drawer Effektiv 54x33 filing cabinet.
There is a locking mechanism in place, but the seller didn't have the keys, as is the case with used Ikea Effektiv cabinets.
What is the process for finding keys? I've been looking all over the web, but to no avail.
There is a number "3" on the back of the lock barrel.

what other info is needed? I called Ikea, but they said they aren't supporting Effektiv anymore

Hello Ikea Fans,

This is my first post so prepare yourself for an info dump. Here is the link to my plan - please let me know if I am not doing this correctly:

http://kitchenplanner.ikea.com/US/UI...SharedDesign=1

A little background - within the past year we moved into a hundred-year-old Arts 'n' Crafts four square in St Paul Minnesota. It is in great condition with ridiculous oak moldings everywhere except the kitchen, which is a disaster. The kitchen appears to have been updated at some point in the past 20 years in the cheapest and most haphazard way possible. We are planning to change everything except the wood floors and have already bought new appliances (dimensions are correct on my plan (except the microwave is not yet purchased, and the height on the range)).

That includes windows - currently there are no windows on the south wall (that's the one with the exterior door), and there is a huge window on the west wall (where the stove is placed in our design) that currently makes that whole wall unusable for cabinets. In the new design, I want to have a big window on the south wall, which looks out onto the backyard. The west wall just faces the side of the neighbors' house so, if we have any windows there at all, smaller and higher is fine.

Aside from those factors, the mission statement is to have plenty of cabinet space for our many kitchen gadgets/small appliances and have enough room for my husband and I to both comfortably work. My husband has a preference for bringing cabinets up to the ceiling where possible; I am not so concerned about that because our 9' ceilings make it somewhat impractical, plus I like the pictures I have seen on this site that use lighting in that open space. (The current design has them up to the ceiling.) Seating in the kitchen is not a priority... we have a lovely dining room adjacent to the kitchen and would prefer to use that.

I am very open to alternative suggestions and extremely appreciative to hear the group's thoughts. Additionally, I have the following specific questions/concerns/comments:

- Although I really like the butcher block countertops, since we've decided on the Adel red color cabinets, we will probably go with a light color stone countertop instead. The design currently includes the butcher block just to have something other than the white to look at.

- I was very confused about the cabinets above the fridge and not sure how to set them up so they are continuous with the adjacent wall cabinets.

- Do I have enough cabinets? I don't want to crowd the space but also don't want to under-do it. I think there is plenty of space in the current design but am open to opinions.

- I read the article on this site about how to arrange the tall cabinet, but I have (1) no idea how to lay it out using the planner software and (2) no opinion about how it should be laid out. Very open to suggestions and advice on this.

- I don't understand what needs to happen to "build in" the dishwasher and (less importantly) the fridge.

- This design is the product of a plan put together by the lovely saleslady at the custom cabinet place who quoted us $19k, and improved upon by a family member who is an excellent interior designer. One suggestion the family-member designer had, which is not included in this design, is to have a small peninsula that comes out from the wall just to the left of the stove. She drew is as 2' wide by either 5' or 7' long. That would eliminate the base cabinets with drawers that are currently in that spot. It is not included in the current design because (1) I couldn't figure out how to draw such a thing in Ikea's software and (2) I'm not sure I like the idea (the husband is more in favor)... I think I would rather have more storage space and I would prefer not to have seating in the kitchen.

- Oh yeah, last thing, there is supposed to be a sink in the appropriate cabinet on the south wall. Couldn't figure out how to add it in, and I will probably be selecting something non-Ikea.

Again, thanks very much for any comments.

Ikea sinks and faucets

Do any of you have experience with Ikea sinks and faucets? They seem fine, and I like the simplicity of one-stop-shopping. But I'm the researching type, and feel uneasy if I don't thoroughly investigate my options. On the other hand, there are SO MANY options out there.

For those of you with ikea sinks and/or faucets, how has your experience with them been?

[For Sale or Trade] Looking for a value on hova chairs

I purchased two Ikea Hova chairs (blue) sometime in the 1990s. I loved them but they no longer fit our needs so I want to donate them to a church that needs them. I cannot for the life of me find a fair value because I cannot find an old Ikea catalog that carries them. I think they were still in the catalog until 2001 or 2002, but I am not sure. I tried to get information from Ikea but they were totally unhelpful. Can anyone help?

Floating floor recommendations

We are installing new flooring in the kitchen, and want to use a floating, "click" type of floor. We want natural materials, so wood, cork or bamboo. In browsing products, I've found a HUGE range of prices (and presumably quality). While we want a decent and durable product, we also don't want to blow our remodel budget on flooring. Can you recommend manufacturers that offer a good product at a good price?

STORNÄS Buffet - issue with the smooth-running drawers with ball-bearing slides and pull-out stop

Hi all,

I have an issue with this piece of furniture (001.849.47). To explain it more easily, here is the instruction guide: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/assembly_instructions/stornas-buffet__AA-375053-11_pub.PDF

I have an issue on page 19 (step 21). I have in my box four items 114507, which are identical ("left version"). Do you happen to know whether there is a way to transform a "left version" of these items into a "right version"?
Or the answer is that I have to go back to the store to get two "right versions"?

Any help welcome!

Thanks

FJELL Wardrobe Chop Down

Hi everyone,

New to the forums and Ikea in general.

Looking at getting the FJELL wardrobe but it is about 18cm too high for the spot where I want to put it (attic room) due to a structural beam.

Where do you think I can cut the height out of without affecting the look of the piece too much?

Thinking the kick board and the top of the unit. Trying not to have to shorten the stylised doors.
