Hey Everyone!
We're about to pull the trigger and place our orders for Ikea cabs with white Scherr's doors (style 201). We chose Scherr's maple doors so that we have the option to refinish them in the future -we are really pleased with the weight and finish of the sample door. Anyway, I am generally happy with our design but I'd love feedback on our design! Have I forgotten anything?
FYI, we are planning to do either a 36" in SS or silgranit undermount sink. The 48" counter on the right side of the island will house our toaster oven and microwave - will be a "breakfast bar" of sorts. There is a soffit above the cabinets on the range side, and we're planning to do built-in banquette seating in the bay window (some day). I've included "before pictures" but for the life of me I can't get them to flip right side up unless viewed in "full size". And please excuse the mess... with an 18 mo old and 4 year old my house is only clean for the 8 hours we are all asleep.
Some of my *concerns* are:
Is the island too big for the kitchen? Currently we have a 30x72 inch island with our stovetop/range in it - not much work space and the stove top is very easily accessed by the kiddos from both sides. We want more space for prep, as well as more storage.
Are the walkways big enough once we put countertops in? They are currently about 42 inches exist the pass through between the fridge and the wall - our entry from the garage and side door, but not a main thoroughfare for guests.
Is a 36" sink TOO big for this kitchen? I really want a deep single bowl. And visually, a 36" base cab was the only way to center it in the window. So to avoid having a couple of 6 inch cabs with a corner unit and smaller sink cab, we now have a blind corner cabinet and a 36" sink base. Our current sink is 33".
Thanks in advance, friends!
