Greetings IKEA Fans!
I'm attaching 4 pictures of used IKEA furniture that I bought off the internet and would like to refinish/repaint:
The end result should be that the blue painted parts are painted a neutral color and the wooden parts be stained and re-varnished, specifically the table top due to what look like white, milky water stains.
I assume I could paint primer over the blue pieces and then paint over that with the color of my choice. Or would starting off with a sanding or paint stripping party be advisable?
To stain and re-varnish the parts that are not blue, I would need to sand/strip. The material seems to be your typical inexpensive, soft pine, and I would be concerned that any of this work would damage the substance of the furniture?
I have some experience with re-finishing (stripping, sanding, staining, varnishing) other wooden furniture, but I've not tried it with IKEA products and don't entirely trust them to stand up to the procedure...?
A different approach, that might actually be best because it is the least risky and time consuming, would be to just put primer on absolutely every inch and then put down my neutral color and be done with it.
Also, is it better to take everything apart, paint individual parts and rebuild, or paint as is?
Please check out the photos and feel free to give me any advice/warnings/experience reports you might have!
I hope to post before and after photos of these pieces in the near future!
Also, should you recognize these pieces/this set by name, I would appreciate that too, as I am looking for that info in the appropriate threads.
Thanks! JesterBoBester
