base pullout & tall pantry questions

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking here for the last year or two writing down everything I can that may apply to my kitchen. I'm finally going to reno my small galley kitchen. I'm not moving the appliances since the layout works well. I cannot move any walls so my only option is an addition which would not be feasible in a starter home. The cabinets were built my original home owner. I'm just trying to update the look & make them more functional.I'm finally going to reno my kitchen. I have 2 questions that I'm hoping you can shed light on.
#1- I only have room for a 12" base cabinet on each side of my stove. The fridge will flank one side of the base cabinet & a doorway leading into the living room is on the other side. I can put a 12" base pullout on each side or I can put a 12" door cabinet & rationell drawers. I've read that those that have the pantry pullouts loved them in the store but do not like them as much now that they have them due to the door in their face. Does that hold true for a base pullout cabinet as well? If I'm doing the math correctly, the door cabinet frame & door, set of 12" drawers with 153 degree hinges & damper would only be about $13 more. I also read that the bottom shelf would not be flush to the bottom as shown in the pullout due to hinge getting into the way. So if you had to go with either option, which would you choose: 12" base pullout or 12" door cabinet with drawers?

Now on to my second question. I'm putting in a 30x80 pantry cabinet. I'd love to out in an 88" but I have a small soffitt that houses hvac so I plan to box that in so that it extends the depth of the pantry & cover with cover panel so it looks built in. Will the 30" drawers fit in the 30" pantry? I know that I need room the slides but not sure how much. I also know that the drawer fronts do not come in 30". We plan to make drawer fronts. I saw a post where someone took the shelves out & added drawers but after hours of searching, I cannot find it.
I'm traveling 5 hours one way to my nearest ikea in 2 weeks so I'd like to have everything set as much as possible. Since we have never been, we've got a hotel room nearby so we can take 2 days to look around & then make our final selections. I've got a general idea with the planner how the kitchen would look. Again since we're not changing the layout, my current cabinets are very close to the ones ikea offers except my cabs were built and are not exactly the same size even though they were designed to be. It's not noticable until you get the tape measurement out. I've been creating a spreadsheet using the parts list to make things easier for ordering & another one to have to check things off when I take delivery.

Can someone help me please?
